Lost Wolf Wine Co 'Barossa Hard Semillon' Fortified
Lost Wolf Wine Co 'Barossa Hard Semillon' Fortified
About the Wine:
This delicious fortified white wine was created by accident in 2020 when Wolf's daughter had heard of some Semillon grapes that had become over-ripe on the vine.
The winemaking process involves a brief juice-skin contact and gentle pressing in a basket press. Fermentation is stopped by fortification with Brandy Spirit, resulting in a slightly sweet wine. It is then aged in ex Whisky barrels, enhancing complexity from the wood and previous contents. Bottled as needed, each label is handwritten with the bottling date, showcasing the distinct character of this single vintage fortified wine.
It has a sweet and moorish palate of vanilla, white tea, golden sultanas and peach.
About the Producer:
Wolf Viergever embodies his Dutch heritage and Australian upbringing. Raised in the Barossa Valley, his family's printing background aligns with their love for wine. With roots in Den Haag and Bergen op Zoom, the Viergevers have been printing labels in the Barossa for generations, combining tradition with a modern touch. Wolf's winemaking journey began in the 90s, supplying fruit to local winemakers before returning to the industry in 2017. "The Shed," a collaborative workspace, became the birthplace of Lost Wolf Wine Co., where family and lifelong friends produce wine and brandy. Guided by Wolf's self-taught expertise, they source fruit and craft labels with care. Wolf is known as a passionate and innovative winemaker, turning his hobby into something extraordinary.
